Day 4: Trials

She sits in my office… tears steaming down her face, eyes cast down.  Feeling disappointed in herself.  Knowing the rumors are already spreading, knowing how difficult-how fiercely difficult it will be to stop them.  Truth is so much harder to spread.  She sits in her chair, fingers twisting her tissue, knowing she has broken the trust of many.

“This will haunt me for the rest of my life,” she whispers.  And my heart aches for her because I, too, understand how quickly the rumors are spreading.  Damage control will be difficult.  My years tell me that her choice will only haunt her for a time…it’s going to be a long season, though, for this 11 year old.
